I want a website or program to download free music, but I don’t want to risk getting a virus. One example being Limewire, I don’t trust it. Any ideas?

  1. the best site to go to is http://www.urbanmusicdaily.net!!!!! seriously people i really reccomend it of you like pop, rnb, grime, dance, trance, garage ... its got everything!!... ITS EVEN GOT BIEBER FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!

  2. http://mp3dragon.com is the best site for music downloads...

    • Couldn't find any of the songs I wanted on there :/ musicjacker is pretty good for anyone wanting a program for downloading music, I found all the songs I wanted on there so I'd recommend using that instead...

      It's safe too btw

  3. I don't know about software, but I tried some suggestions found on this page and http://www.mp3dld.com seems the most legit. I even ran a anti-virus check via siteadvisor and norton security web and it's 100% virus free! Thank you makeuseof community !

  4. i want a software that i can download music amd muvies freely
    thanks.

  5. Get latest version of *Firefox*, then the Addon called *DownThemAll* (Firefox mass downloader - best addon!) go to *Youtube*.
Choose and click on the song you want and the 'DownThemAl' icon will flicker black & red on the Firefox toolbar.
Click on the icon and you can download anything you want, including multiple downloads to your folder of your choosing.
Get the *VLC* media player as it compatible with everything out there.
All the above programs are OpenSource and free.

    • not true, I tried it and it asks for $10 or it wont install

      • 10$ for what?
I paid *nothing* for all the software.
You can always donate, of course.

        • Ugh It asked me for $10 too...

  6. is there any sites that are virus and are free for the psp to download?

  7. I followed John Emerald's suggestion and tried http://www.mp3dld.com . Really nice experience mostly due to the fact that there are no pop-ups or annoying ads. I recommend it!

  8. There's a really easy way
Open up youtube, and find the song that you want
In a new tab open Youtube to mp3 converter
Get the URL from th youtube tab and go back to youtube to mp3 converter and paste it the the text box and click convert, after that check that you have he right song (the title will be on there) and click download.

  9. You could try http://www.mp3dld.com . Thousands of mp3s available and hundreds more added daily

  10. Spotify is the best I think. You do not really download, but stream. There loads of music for free.
The website Grooveshark does that too.

And if you really want to download music to your PC Jamendo may be the right option http://www.jamendo.com/en

  11. i do not recall bear share of being free half the songs you pick out on there you have to pay at least 99 cents in order to download the song so that is not free and bear share does give viruses i just need something simple and easy and that does not give viruses thanks

  12. Dilandau
    used it for years
    not a singe virus
just type in the name of the song, then when it come up, right click and save target as. What i do, i have itunes open while i do this, then when it it finished downloading, my computer asks if i want to open it. i click yes. it is now in itunes and i can copy to my ipod!!
    thanks dilandau!! <3

After that you have to double click it it will go on your desktop just like that. BUT! it will not be on your Itunes yet... it is on your desktop and downloads. Double click the small icon on our desktop and your dream of your song will appear on your Itunes.

  22. I recommend the mp3Skull website. They have loads of free music of all types and categories. Just type the name of the artiste into the search window and mp3 will give you a selection of freely downloadable songs. You can also search for one particular song by name. They also have a pop-up music player so you can listen to the song(s) before downloading it/them. This site is VERY easy to use. Happy listening! Cleo

  96. Decent luck here. I think it takes a complicated google search, which also works pretty well and makes it easy: http://www.googlemusicsearch.com/

  97. Try soundcloud for free mix's & dance. very very good

  98. The Internet Archive
    http://www.archive.org/
An incredible source of live music, public domain audio and movies.

  99. If you like retro music, you can listen online here: http://www.primeradio.lk/radio.html They have different programs daily, such as the dance/disco, country, jazz, beatboxing and just retro or oldies.

  100. For people looking for all kinds of metal, this here blog is speciliazed in it: http://littlewhitebutterflies.freeforums.org/index.php

It's been around for over 2 years now. It's at the point where new bands actually knock on its door asking to post about their demo or single

  101. This one's easy.

Be sure NOT to type in 'www' because it won't work that way.

I found this website I don't know how long ago, probably like a year, maybe a year and a half.
This website is in my opinion the best place to go to if you want free music now without having to go through all that crap with the registration, and the toolbars, and the cookies, and the logins, and the security, ect.

All you have to do is search, click, and choose to listen now, or save the song for later.
But beware (not much though), some people, for some reason, think it's a good idea to post spam (fake songs, 'way-off' frequencies, bits of songs, 'tape-recorder-held-up-to-an-AM-radio'-esque bad quality, incomplete songs, corrupt files, mismatched songs/files, dead links, ect...), just check the duration and other specs and credentials in the description and you oughta be fine.

    • is there any fees behind this though???

      • No. But possibly fines if you're caught downloading and sharing music illegally.

        • why are all you people continuously encouraging criminal activity in illegal downloading of music and taking music artists livelihoods from them by not paying for their music?

        • why do all you people constantly berate people for illegally downloading music, fuck that i dont care how good a song is, so wat if the rockstar and record company only make 9 million instead of 10. the music is sang for the ppl, it shouldnt matter about the cd's when they make a shit ton off of concerts and appearances and asshole like you who feel better about yourselves cause your dumb enough to pay retail..just answer the mans question, Damn!

  102. will someone help I have this 80g ipod and don want to loose my music and videos
and dont have them in my hard drive anymore, but at same time want to had more and rearange them but I can tranfer to my hard drive but is only nubered items no names that I recognise. so want to put them in my hard drive and fix them and then put back in my ipod, somebody help am not good at this, thanks, victor

    • Victor,

please post this as a new question. Thank you!

    • I like keeping my music on my ipod also and add/delete music without losing anything else stored on it. So i was intro'd to 'copytrans' there is a lil mire on the name i cant recall at this moment, but Google it and it will come up. You transfer anything you want back & forth w/o losing anything on your ipod. It syncs to ipod just like itunes, but doesnt limit what u can do. Check it out, its great!!

    • victor you can download this thing called copytrans you might have to pay for it but its not that expensive look into it and see if this is what you are looking for it takes everything from your ipod and transfers everything to your itunes so that when you sync you ipod it wont delete everything

  103. Before I give my answer, I should let you know that this method I'm about to show you isn't exactly legal and that I am not saying you should do this at all.

To answer your question, what you could do (theoretically) is download a Firefox plugin called DownloadHelper and go to a site like YouTube or Grooveshark. Once on one of those sites, find a song you want, let it load, and click DownloadHelper to download it. You may have to convert the downloaded file to mp3 but I assure you this is much safer than using a program like Limewire. :)

    • Does this work if you want to download just the audio from a YouTube video? My old iPod doesn't have video.

      • If you just want to rip the audio, you need to grab audacity. i twill let you record the audio that is being played through your pc speakers, and you can cut and edit the audio stream.

Very simple to use, and allows you to label the songs how you want them to be labeled.

      • If you convert the file to mp3 you should just have audio. If that doesn't
work I know there are programs that can extract the audio from youtube
        videos.

    • I do the same via Orbit Downloader! Grooveshark is great. I am curious though, is there a way to still acquire a virus through this method?

      • I doubt you can get a virus through a Grooveshark because I am sure
Grooveshark team check the tracks before posting them on the site.
The OrbitDownloader is a bit different on the other hand. Since you're
able to use it on many websites beyond their control you may get an
infected file if used on unsafe website.

        Aibek

      • Orbit Downloader is another great program for this. So long as you're
downloading mp3s or flash videos I highly doubt you could get a virus. If
you did it would probably mean that Grooveshark or Youtube somehow had a
corrupt file uploaded, which I'd say is rare.

    • http://video2mp3.net can convert youtube directly to mp3 for download

    • let me ask a dumb question.. how do you convert files

      • @Skotstives, there are many many ays to convert video/audio files to MP3
        format.

Why don't you ask it as a new question, 'How To Convert Files Downloaded
from Youtube or Grooveshark to MP3 format?'

  104. u could also try download 'ARES' its like limewire but i find it way!!!! safer
    aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/

    • dont use ares gave my computer a virus

      • it didn't effect my computer when i downloaded it, and i have been using it for months now.

    • yeah its slow than limewire but i love that ares 1 :D

      • You need an activation code for version 3.1.0.4099 of ares? How have you been able to use it??

    • Byt how did you use it?? It says you need an activation code for version 3.1.0.4099???

      • You aren't very smart. Limewire, Ares, Frostwire, all this shit is legitimate. You get viruses because you don't look at the name of the website. That's why Limewire was shut down. So many people made look-alike websites that you downloaded from that the REAL Lime received lawsuits. You don't get viruses when you know what you're dealing with.

  105. As they say, download and listen to over 20000 albums, legally http://www.jamendo.com/
Another great otion to listen a lot of music online is grooveshark, organized by artist and albums http://listen.grooveshark.com/

    • Man.....I agree about Grooveshark. I'm over here in S.Korea teaching English and for some stupid reason I can't get Pandora (and some other sites) over here. Back in the US Pandora was always my favorite site. But since I discovered Grooveshark I'm not so sure that I don't like it better. Pandora might still be better to discover music but if you know what you're looking for I really 'groove' on Grooveshark. I don't know how they do it. The only artist I've never found tons of music from is Bonnie Rait.

      • third GrooveShark

      • Grooveshark recently also added a feature to help you discover music -- I think it's called 'radio.' And I agree, Grooveshark is amazing and so much better than Pandora.

      • Art, I see you are over there in Korea teaching English. Ever heard of the Student's New Phrase Book? It's a winner. A 170 page pamphlet filled brim full of good phrases. A dictionary tells you the meaning of words but the Phrase book I speak of shows you how to use them. I know it costs £14.88, but it's worth every penny.

      • I agree completely with you on that. Pandora has a much better radio or discover feature, but I really like Grooveshark overall. I have gotten music off Grooveshark for free using the Orbit Downloader plugin in Firefox which you can find here http://bit.ly/ifhryU

    • dont download grove shark i got a virus from it and it messed up my computer

    • use kickass.to then download a torrent client like utorrent and go. completely free.

  106. I stopped download music or buying music because when I listen to it, I always seem to skip songs all the time that I don't like any more or I forget to download new songs that come out. My alternative is to listen to online radio. I've found a few stations I like, and they always play great music. Jelli.net is a pretty good site as well - you actually get to vote for the songs being played. //www.makeuseof.com/tag/jelli-radioactive-free-music-streaming-site/

    Just an alternative to downloading.

    • After I installed AWN on my Linux box, I discovered Pandora, another internet radio that very intelligently selects music according to your tastes.

      • I used to love Pandora, but then they blocked it in Australia. I then found Slacker Radio, but that too got blocked. Now I am on to Internet Radio.

You could always listen to a song and record it using Audacity?

        • Why would stuff like that get blocked? I guess I'm fortunate to be living in the USA, but that seems to be a negative these days. I'll continue to use Pandora until it becomes a problem. I really don't want to have to rip all my CD's again.

        • It's blocked due to the licensing restriction they have on their music. It's the same reason why sites like Hulu or blocked to most parts of the world.

        • use hot spot shield it will give you an ip address in the states so you can continue using pandora and hulu

        • Good idea

  107. i think the best website to download music for free is dilandau.com. There you can search for any song and download without any hassle.

    • Is it legal?!

      • Of course not

    • Is it really for free?

    • Well i sure couldnt figure it out

      • its not that difficult. search for the song and right click and save target as.

    • i have tried this and it worked thanks

    • i personally think the best method is with a program called musicjacker - http://musicjacker. it's sooo easy to use!

    • is it working? downloading songs there dsnt give harm to d computer?

    • I couldn't get it to work

  108. Hi Edgar, the question to be asked here is if you are looking for legitimate places to download music or not quite legal torrents, such as Limewire. A few suggestions of places you can get some free music:
    http://www.emusic.com/ (30 free downloads)
    http://www.amazon.com/Free-Songs-Music/b?ie=UTF8&node=334897011

  109. iTunes also has a small selection of free mp3s which is updated regularly

And also take a look at this article //www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-10-websites-for-free-legal-mp3-music-downloads/
You should find a wider selection on the sites listed there

  110. Hi Edgar, you might want to check out our Sound Sunday feature. You'll find the back catalog here.

    • I found another great resource… he talks about “legal” ways to download music… i guess his definition of “legal” is “anything that doesnt get you caught”

      here it is:

Illegally downloading music isn’t an option if you’re looking to support the artists and producers who enrich our lives — as you should be.

As any true music lover knows, you should try to support the people who make your favorite tunes. Downloading may not be as popular as streaming music, and there are some convenient ways to stream your favorite tracks for free, such as Apple Music and Spotify. But if you don’t want to pay, streaming options beyond that are fairly limited. So, what are the best free music download sites?

And yet, downloading music torrents never gets old. Rather it is an equally popular way to get hold of your favorite tracks without a hassle. So, we thought now would be a good time to recommend the top 4 best torrent websites for music. Get the best VPN for torrenting from Ivacy and download torrents securely.

Jul 14, 2018  What is the best torrent site for music producer? Which is the best torrent site for bollywood movies? Which is the best torrent site to download Hollywood movies? You'll probably be surprised, but there's actually more than one way to put music on your iPhone without using iTunes! Option 1: Cloud Services. There are some free, big-name cloud services that will let you upload your music collection to play on your iPhone, on or offline, and I'll be covering three of them below before we get to other options. Below are a few of our favorites, so you can keep the tunes going even when your car rounds the next bend or Comcast decides to cut you off. Many of these sites are void of Billboard artists like Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar, but if you look in the right spots, you’ll find a few hits from some big names, along with scores of independent artists that should keep your ears happy and your wallet heavy.

Free Music Archive

In 2009, New Jersey-based WFMU Radio embarked on a project to make contemporary music of all genres available to the public, and the Free Music Archive was born. Since its inception, WFMU has partnered with dozens of other curators, and the site has become a veritable treasure trove of free content.

The site combines two different approaches to posting tracks: First, it indexes free music posted by all of its partner curators, and second, it allows users to post their own music directly to the archives. This synthesis of sources creates a mind-boggling library of tracks that you could literally spend months browsing through, whether you choose to do so by curator or genre. In addition, the site hosts a myriad of podcasts, and renowned radio stations such as Seattle’s KEXP frequently post live cuts from their studio sessions with big-name acts passing through. The smash tracks may lack some post-production, but they’re also free.

SoundCloud

Not every song posted on SoundCloud is free, but both big-name and lesser-known artists often offer free downloads if you can manage to find their verified profile — though sometimes you may have to drop them a like on Facebook or a follow on Twitter for the privilege. You can browse SoundCloud by artist, genre, popularity, or latest postings; you will be surprised at how many free tracks can be found. There is also a section of the site dedicated to tracks released under Creative Commons licenses, which means you’re free to download, remix, or tweak them as much as you like.

SoundCloud essentially serves as the YouTube of music uploading, in the sense that anyone can upload their tracks before specifying whether they’re available for download or strictly for streaming purposes. Moreover, the site touts an extremely active user community and one of the sleekest user interfaces of any site on our list, one conveniently lined with a navigational bar at the top and direct access to the service’s accompanying mobile apps.

ReverbNation

Big names like Alabama Shakes, The Civil Wars, and Imagine Dragons all got their start on ReverbNation by sharing their music for free and building up their loyal fanbase. There is a mix of every genre on ReverbNation, but the site tends to lean toward more pop, alternative, and hip-hop than anything else. With a community of nearly 4 million artists, labels, and users, ReverbNation helps you sift through its immersive catalog with cool features like the site’s Discover app and a page that will help you find who is about to be the next big thing.

DatPiff

Music

Rap lovers, rejoice! Since the mid-aughts, the hip-hop community has become a veritable breeding ground for free music, much of which comes in the form of mixtapes. Some are original compilations by artists looking to cop some shine, some feature rappers freestyling over popular instrumentals from their contemporaries, and some are just dropped by artists looking to reward their loyal fans with some free tunes — we’re looking at you, Curren$y.

DatPiff is also the only site on this list that consistently offers free music from mainstream artists — think Future and Drake — and remains the No. 1 spot for fans to download new tapes, view release schedules, and listen to fan-made compilation albums. The site even features a pop-out player so you can listen before you download, as well as a news aggregator that collects stories from sites like HipHopEarly.

Audiomack

There’s a new kid on the block that’s challenging DatPiff’s domination. It’s called Audiomack, and it’s home to what’s fast been branded the best collection of hip-hop, rap, and trap — comprising of everything from smash hits from heavyweights like Kodak Black to viral tracks from emerging artists like NBA YoungBoy. As of late, however, a lot of creators have decided to disable downloads, instead opting to utilize the service’s streaming feature; though rest assured, there is still a large amount of downloadable material, including some mixtapes from Migos, Playboi Carti, and Rich The Kid.

Live Music Archive is essentially a partnership between Internet Archive and etree.org, a community dedicated to providing high-quality, lossless versions of live concerts. You can think of it as a bootlegger’s paradise given the site’s sheer abundance of concert material, much of which focuses on jam bands such as the Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, and Sound Tribe Sector 9. Still, there are a host of other bands to choose from — The Smashing Pumpkins, Jack Johnson, Animal Collective, etc. — along with plenty of genres to browse, ranging from jazz to reggae.

Navigation is a bit of a chore due to the overwhelming wealth of content, but there are ways to filter the results by title, publish date, or original creator. Once you find a particular show, you can often stream or download the individual tracks as a FLAC or MP3, allowing you to play the tracks in your media player of choice. Unfortunately, the site doesn’t ensure a quality performance — so we’d recommend previewing anything that sounds like it could tickle your fancy using Live Music Archive’s web player before taking the plunge and downloading it for local playback.

Jamendo

With hundreds of thousands of tracks from thousands of artists, Jamendo is easily one of the biggest repositories of free music on the web. You won’t find all of your favorite artists here, but the site’s streamlined user interface makes it great for browsing and finding talented new musicians. Instead of browsing by genre, you peruse tracks by popularity, most downloaded, most played, or latest release. Popularity is based on user ratings, so despite the massive number of tracks on the site, you don’t have to spend a lot of time searching before you find stuff that pleases your ears. To be sure, the site’s penchant for lesser-known artists and experimental tracks makes it more suited for someone looking for something new rather than specific artists.

NoiseTrade

NoiseTrade is one part free music site, one part promotion platform. Users can browse by composer or performer, or filter results based on the time period and instrument. Whether you enjoy the complex arrangements of the Baroque period or the fierce passion of the Romantics, Musopen probably has what you’re looking for.

Last.fm

When Last.fm was initially created in 2002, it functioned as an internet radio station in a similar fashion to Pandora and iHeartRadio. In 2005, however, the site adopted Audioscrobbler, a music-recommendation system that collects data from dozens of media players and music-streaming websites to craft individual user profiles that reflect their musical taste and listening habits. Last.fm has now “scrobbled” info from nearly 100 billion plays, which total more than 7 million years’ worth of listening.
